Berrybyte is a software studio based in South Africa. We are the responsible party for the personal information described here. Our information officer can be reached at support@berrybyte.co.za.

When you use the contact form or email us, we receive:

• Your name.
• Your email address.
• Whatever you write in your message.

When you visit any page, our hosting provider automatically records basic technical details, such as your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for and the time. This is standard for every website and is used to keep the site running and secure.

We don’t ask for anything sensitive, like ID numbers, banking details or health information. Please don’t include it in your message.

This site doesn’t use cookies, analytics, advertising pixels or any third-party tracking. Our fonts and images are served from our own domain, so loading a page doesn’t tell anyone else you visited.

• To read and reply to your message.
• To talk through a project with you, if you’d like to work together.
• To protect the site and the contact form from spam and abuse. For example, your IP address is used briefly to limit how many messages can be sent in a short time.

We process your information because you asked us to get in touch, and because we have a legitimate interest in keeping the site secure. We don’t send newsletters or marketing emails unless you clearly ask for them.

We don’t sell your information or hand it to anyone for marketing.

A small number of service providers handle it on our behalf, only so the site and our email work:

• Vercel hosts this website and keeps the technical request logs described above.
• Resend delivers messages from the contact form to our inbox.
• Our email provider stores the messages we receive and send.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, for example in response to a valid court order.

Our hosting and email providers run servers outside South Africa, including in the United States and the European Union. When you send us a message, your information is processed there. We only use providers that are bound by data protection laws or contract terms that give a level of protection similar to POPIA.

We keep enquiries for up to two years after our last conversation, so we have context if you get back in touch. If you become a client, we keep records for as long as we work together and for five years after that, as South African tax law requires. You can ask us to delete an enquiry sooner at any time.

Technical request logs are kept by our hosting provider for a short period and then deleted automatically.

The site is only served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Access to our inbox and hosting accounts is limited to the people who run Berrybyte and protected by strong passwords and two-step sign-in. The contact form checks and limits what it accepts, so it can’t easily be misused.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach ever affects your information, we’ll let you and the Information Regulator know as POPIA requires.

Under POPIA you can ask us to:

• Tell you whether we hold information about you, and give you a copy.
• Correct anything that’s wrong or out of date.
• Delete your information.
• Stop using your information, or object to how we use it.

Email support@berrybyte.co.za and we’ll respond within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm it’s really you before we share or delete anything. There’s no charge.

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please tell us first so we can fix it. You also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za (opens in a new tab) or complaints.IR@inforegulator.org.za.

This site is meant for businesses and adults. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think a child has sent us their details, email us and we’ll delete them.

Our work page links to products and client sites we’ve built. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and this one doesn’t cover them.

If we change how we handle your information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. For significant changes affecting people we’re already in touch with, we’ll let them know directly.
